Mt. Zion realizes that we love best when we are part of a community. It is our privilege to uplift our neighbors and to use our time, talents, and treasures for the good of everyone – not just our own people.

relay for life

Mt. Zion always makes a strong showing at this annual event, which celebrates the lives of cancer survivors and helps continue the fight against the disease. Each year, we raise thousands of dollars for research and relief, thanks to a faithful group of volunteers and coordinators. At the event, we make sure that we have a group that's active on the track throughout the day and night, holding vigil for all those who have battled and lost – and for those who have battled and won.

Catawba County's Relay for Life happens in late May or early June of each year.

chicken pie ministry

In Catawba County, many churches host chicken pot pie suppers to carry on the tradition of good country cooking and to fund worthwhile causes. Mt. Zion has earned a stellar reputation for making exceptional chicken pies from scratch (crust and filling!) and using the proceeds from sales to improve the church, whether through access to technology or access for the disabled. We also use the money to offset medical expenses for local folks in need.

Scout troop #235

For many decades, Mt. Zion has supported the efforts to raise young men of quality and to teach them practical skills and good character. Our local scout troop gathers in a stone building constructed through the labor of former members who were masons and builders. Men from our congregation continue to serve as troop leaders, and there's a long legacy of scouting within our ranks as well.

The Cub Scouts meet at 5:30pm each Monday in the Scout Hut; the Boy Scouts gather on Mondays at 7pm.
